From Gadgets to Green: A Guide to Sustainable Innovations" (Part 2)
Do we wanna be eco-friendly in Tech 💻?
Hello 👋 Innovators,
We know what you've been up to. Yes, you! You looking at the screen right now.
You have been busy innovating! 👩💻
Surprised 😧😯? Don't be! We know this phase on the journey of innovation. It’s the Consonance Club complex, it's the kind of effect we have on people 😁.
We'll be picking up right where we left off. Going green from our gadgets, innit?
We already laid a great foundation 🧱 last week, you already know about some acts of hypocrisy even from the “activists”.
So today, we'll be delving right in, but before then ☝️…
…This look familiar?
Alright 👌. Here we are.
Last week we defined Sustainable Tech, and we did it in diverse ways so that either way you'll get the drill.
We called out the extremities of some climate activists and we agreed that they do have a point.
Our use of the sun to generate power is an undeniable source of renewable energy and thankfully that's a topic for today.
How Can Tech Be Sustainable?
We compiled a few methods that we as innovators could employ in our innovation.
Renewable Energy
As promised, it often involves the use of renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydropower to power devices and systems and to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
It's almost no news that so many houses in Africa 🌍 are solar-powered.
Apart from solar companies cashing out big, this is a big win for both techies and environmentalists.
Reduced Emissions:
Sustainable tech seeks to lower greenhouse gas emissions, pollutants, and other harmful byproducts associated with traditional technologies.
The technology sectors would have to figure out how to be less “toxic” to the environment.
Recycling gadgets contribute to a circular Economy:
This right here is our innovators in the design (not product design) sector.
According to critics, the design sector might as well be the most wasteful sector there is.
Recycling gadgets is a means of going green. It promotes the design of products with materials that can be easily recycled or repurposed thereby contributing to a circular economy where waste is minimized.
While designers of hardware products complain that this could be very limiting where creativity is concerned, activists are asking to be less wasteful.
Sustainable Agriculture: This one is geared toward our innovators in agriculture.
Incorporating technology into farming practices to improve crop yields, reduce water usage, and minimize environmental impact is a very important practice to keep tech sustainable.
Sustainable tech is driven by the need to address environmental challenges, including climate change and resource depletion, while also providing economic benefits and improving quality of life. It plays a critical role in creating a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future by combining innovation with responsible environmental stewardship.
In closing, as we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of technology, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to sustainability.
What Can You Do About It Today?…
We think transportation in Lagos needs better payment options and we need your help to understand the challenges faced with payment in the transportation sector of Lagos.
Payment systems for transportation, such as contactless cards, mobile wallets, and digital apps, play a pivotal role in reducing paper cash usage and fostering a more sustainable way of life. This shift towards cashless transactions not only reduces the environmental impact associated with paper production and transportation but also minimizes the need for resource-intensive coin minting.
We are looking for 1000 Lagosians, to take this survey to help our ongoing conversations with stakeholders in Government and private sector.
Kindly share.
Let's code 🧑💻 a brighter, greener 🌴 🎄future together
