From Code to Compassion: How Tech NGOs/Social Initiatives are Driving Innovation
How Tech NGOs are Making a Difference 🎇🔥
Hello Dear Innovator,
Welcome to the month of relaxation! It’s the sixth month and it’s time to reset in preparation for the second half of the year.
So… you might be hanging upside down on your last motivation thread, and this is us getting in that exact position with you.
…just to let you know that there's light even at the end of the fuel ⛽ subsidy tunnel.
As promised in our Midweek Check-in we are devoting today to the NGOs and initiatives who make tech studies possible without us worrying about school fees.
When Tech came to the scene as the new oil, fees could have been a problem like the good old academic tuition fees, but apparently not under the watch of these warriors.
They have given their all and exist with structures in place to make your dreams come true.
…but before we start singing their praises let's take a funny tweet 🤣 from tech Twitter.
Today, we’ll discuss tech NGOs/Social initiatives that offer free learning and how they drive growth in Africa. These companies offer fully funded tech courses for eager learners and they award certificates as proof of completion and tenacity.
Note: This edition of our newsletter is specially for innovators looking for learning opportunities to learn new skills or update old ones.
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
-Eleanor Roosevelt
Most of them, you already know and love, so let’s have one that is particularly invested in Technology for your development.
Tech4Dev
Tech4Dev is an NGO that leverages technology to empower women and girls in marginalized communities. They provide digital skills training, access to technology tools, and support women-led businesses in the technology sector.
Oops… I forgot to mention that this is one for the girls in the house.
All female innovators in the house, come closer 🤗 for this one, it’s especially for you. Yes, it's the era of so much social focus on the girl child, cause you’ll hear stuff like “A pad for her”, “This for her” or “That for her”. However, the female child is also not left behind in the drive for inclusivity in tech.
Let’s see what Tech4 Dev has been up to since its founding in 2017 and the declaration of their vision to bridge the digital gender gap, provide digital skills training, and create opportunities for ladies.
Here’s a reputable source's summary of how they achieve these three goals.
Digital Skills Training: Tech4Dev offers digital skills training programs to women and girls, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and tools to navigate the digital world effectively. The training covers topics such as basic computer literacy, coding, web development, and digital entrepreneurship.
Access to Technology: The organization works to increase access to technology tools, such as computers and internet connectivity, for women and girls in underserved communities. This ensures they have the necessary resources to learn, explore, and participate in the digital economy.
Entrepreneurship Support: Tech4Dev supports and mentors women-led businesses in the technology sector. They offer guidance on business development, access to funding opportunities, and networking platforms to help women entrepreneurs succeed.
Tech4Dev collaborates with various stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector organizations, and other NGOs, to achieve its goals. These partnerships help amplify their impact and reach a wider audience.
There’s so much you can do with Tech4Dev, head over to their Instagram to get started.

Ingressive4Good
Ingressive4Good (also known as I4G) is a social initiative. It is a subsidiary of Ingressive, a tech-focused investment group and you should know this.
“How,” you asked. Remember Maya Horgan Famodu? The Nigerian-American entrepreneur and founder of Ingressive Capital, the one from our Women's history month specials.
Great! But if you really don’t remember, rather than returning to whatever cave you live in, we saved a copy for you. Check out our “Tech Sheroes: Celebrating The Women Showing the Way in Africa 🌍.” newsletter
Yes, Ingressive Capital and Ingressive4Good are connected entities. Both organizations are part of the larger Ingressive ecosystem, which focuses on supporting and empowering the African tech and entrepreneurship community.
Now back to business…
Ingressive4Good's mission is to create and increase the earning power of African youths through technology and entrepreneurship. They aim to provide resources, mentorship, and opportunities to help young Africans thrive in the tech ecosystem. This initiative arm complements the investment efforts by nurturing talent, creating opportunities, and building a vibrant ecosystem for African innovators.
In 2020, the 14G founder was quoted to have said “It’s not fair for any one to have to survive on less than a dollar per day. Tech has the power to change that and empower them to succeed. Let’s build an organization to ensure that every African youth can access the resources they need to live a good life, regardless of their background, socioeconomic status, etc. It’s impossible only if we refuse to attempt it.”. It is safe to say that since then Ingressive4Good has being running with this goal, without retreat or surrender.
Without compromise, I4G is also known for organizing coding boot camps, hackathons, and workshops to enhance the technical skills of African students
The organization conducts an annual "Tech Tour" across universities in Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya. This tour brings together tech leaders, investors, and successful entrepreneurs to engage with students, share insights, and inspire the next generation of African innovators. I4G is quickly becoming a huge networking opportunity among youths across the country and the continent.
The courses range from design, data marketing, product management and programming. The opportunities are almost inexhaustible, for an innovator looking to broader their horizon and their website is equally rich and loaded with info. Head over to Ingressive.org to learn more.
