Hello dear innovator
The path 🛣 of innovation never has to be lonely, and this is one of the reasons why we exist, and we hope our 12 O’clock Saturday newsletters are a reminder of that.
As usual, it’s innovation o’clock and today’s topic as promised in our midweek check-in is perfect for the times, or so we believe.
With Airtel’s latest launch of 5G in Nigeria and its expansion to launch 5G in Kenya (all in the “Notable Reads Section”), it is important to explore what to expect if all works out as it should.
Today is all things 5G. Don’t believe me?
As the heading states, there is an amazing opportunity to win an MTN 5G WiFi, all you have to do is pay attention.
Today is about the latest thing to look out for in innovation and we hope you get even more excited when you read up on what 5G has in store for our vision of smart cities.
So, let’s get straight into it…
…but first, we have something we consider funny 😂😂 to show you, and of course, you'll be the judge of it.
😂🤣🤣🤣. No be Juju be this?
Epic 😂🤣🤣

The business of the day…
Here's a brief intro and recap of last week’s issue.
As an innovator, you most definitely must have heard of 5G, and you are probably familiar with its use of it, but here's a little intro about 5G;
5G stands for the fifth generation of wireless technology and one of its defining characteristics is its incredible speed. 5G networks are capable of delivering significantly faster data speeds compared to previous generations, reaching up to several gigabits per second. This enables quicker downloads, seamless streaming of high-definition content, and faster response times for various applications.
Other advantages of the 5G network include low latency and massive defense connectivity among many others.
Today’s “Notable Reads For The Week” particularly bears witness to the incoming revolution. As a matter of fact, the Era of 5G is upon us.
In the long run, we’ll be far ahead of where we started, so let’s be the first to say “Welcome To The Future”
Autonomous Vehicles
One of the most promising areas of 5G-enabled technology is autonomous vehicles. With its low latency and high reliability, 5G enables real-time communication between autonomous vehicles, infrastructure, and pedestrians. This communication allows for safer and more efficient transportation systems, reducing congestion and improving traffic management in smart cities.
If the cities are becoming smart, you best believe there’s the cars are equally becoming smarter than they already are.
Autonomous vehicles rely on continuous and reliable communication for navigation, hazard detection, and coordination with other vehicles and infrastructure. 5G's ultra-low latency and high-speed connectivity enable real-time communication between vehicles, traffic management systems, and central control centers. This enables faster response times, improved decision-making, and enhanced safety on the roads.
This is what the future holds for Africans with Airtel’s latest 5G launch in Nigeria and expansion of operations in Kenya.
Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication is a crucial component of autonomous driving. It involves the exchange of information between vehicles, pedestrians, traffic signals, infrastructure, and other elements of the transportation ecosystem.
This right here is innovation pro max, and as we wait for the likes of Tesla to take the lead in this innovation, let’s not forget that we also have a role to play.
Remote Healthcare and Telemedicine
Once again, what is a smart city without smart healthcare?
You guessed right once again! Absolutely nothing 🤷🏽♀️, so let’s find out how it works.
5G can greatly enhance healthcare services in smart cities by enabling remote consultations, remote patient monitoring, and telemedicine applications. With high-speed connectivity and low latency, doctors can provide real-time guidance to healthcare professionals in remote locations, improving access to quality healthcare and reducing the strain on traditional healthcare infrastructure.
What more is there to a smart healthcare system 🤔?
It would facilitate the real-time monitoring of patient's vital signs, such as heart rate, blood pressure, and glucose levels, from a distance. Wearable devices and sensors can collect and transmit data to healthcare providers, enabling continuous remote monitoring of patients with chronic conditions or those in postoperative care. This remote monitoring enhances patient safety, allows for early intervention, and reduces the need for frequent hospital visits.
finally, it has been speculated that in complex surgical procedures, 5G would enable real-time collaboration and assistance from remote experts. This is not unusual, as it is not out of reach even now, but what 5G offers is seamless and fast communication, without the network glitch.
Surgeons can consult with specialists during operations, share high-resolution video feeds and receive guidance in real time. This capability expands access to specialized surgical expertise, particularly in areas where there is a shortage of specialists.
